Bobby Lashley Shoot Interview (2014) 9/14/14
In this candid Highspots shoot interview, Bobby Lashley reflects on his remarkable journey from amateur wrestling standout and military athlete to becoming one of professional wrestling’s most physically dominant performers. A three-time NAIA national champion, four-time All-American, and accomplished Army wrestler, Lashley discusses the challenges he overcame before wrestling stardom, including being injured while intervening during a bank robbery, an incident that nearly altered the course of his athletic career. He looks back on his rapid rise through WWE, winning the United States Championship and ECW Championship, breaking Chris Masters’ Master Lock, competing in the Battle of the Billionaires storyline at WrestleMania 23, and working alongside some of the biggest stars of the era.
Lashley also opens up about his departure from WWE, his successful transition into mixed martial arts, and his resurgence in TNA Wrestling. By 2014, he had established himself as a legitimate force in both industries, compiling an impressive MMA record while simultaneously capturing the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and emerging as one of the company’s top stars. Throughout the interview, Lashley discusses overcoming adversity, balancing combat sports and professional wrestling, and building a career that extended far beyond his initial WWE success.
